WWYD?: Money VS Passion

What would you do in this situation? Would you pick making money in a field that you haven't necessarily been interested in.. or do something you love without much guarantee of success?

"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."
-Joseph Campbell

From what I read in books, heard in fairy tales and inspirations everywhere you're supposed to "Dream Big" & "Follow you're dreams. no matter how outrageous." But what if that leads to little success in the end.. sure you'll be doing something you love but where will it take you? For the longest time I fought and ignored everyone's harsh words of "You're dream is just not practical!" but have you ever thought realistically where this path will take you? I have and it seriously made my desires to a 360 turn around.

If you have a dream and are so extremely passionate about it and have been working hard for it then by all means keep going! This post is for people like me, who have absolutely no idea what they want to be when they grow up. I've changed my mind over and over again from ballet dancer, professional soccer player, painter, veterinarian and even being a dog groomer...yes I actually said that in my life.

But my most recent adventure is going into the fashion industry as a fashion buyer. I always thought it'd be cool because my fashion teacher in high school did it and she said it was the best job ever when you're in your 20's. I always loved everything about fashion and latest trends and of course writing about it in my blog. I even was thinking about attending FIT and my older readers would have known that. Of course, schools and apartments in the city aren't exactly cheap so I knew it was going to be a struggle. I didn't get any financial aid at all because it's not a university so if I don't want to be paying student loans until I'm 60, I might as well find an alternative option to be safe.

I thought long and hard about it and decided FIT isn't what I need to be pursuing. And I should start looking up schools for nursing since everyone says, "there will always be jobs open for nurses." I love babies so I would want to do ultrasound or newborn care or something like that. But, I don't know.. something just doesn't click with me.

My boyfriend and I recently went to his aunts mansion and that's where I got an idea. She went to college for Computer Science and when I heard her talking with her college roommate, they kept saying how they each changed their major into computer science and their bonehead friend said it was easy so they thought 'why not?' Now look at them...rich and living happy. My boyfriends sister got the hint and is actually studying for that in school too, so I felt like I need to jump on the 'money-flow bandwagon'. I always seem to sell myself short when it comes to anything with technology or math... so I'm hoping I can stay optimistic and get help if I need it. So I'm visiting his sister down in Maryland soon to look at the school she's attending to see if I like it. If I think it's too far then I'll find another one here in Jersey.

I think I'm making a good decision for my future, because I can always do computer science, make money then do the things I want to with fashion. I probably won't get famous by it, but I can shop and make more clothing or makeup hauls for you guys :) It will probably be much better for my future family anyway. I want my kids to have everything they need to be successful in life and it starts with me. I want to be able to support not only myself, but a couple of furry children and human ones too.

I hope all you "lost boys" out there can learn from my journey and really create a back-up plan for if maybe you start to second guess and or re-evaluate how true you're dreams are. I was such a lost puppy with my future, but now that I look at it and how I have a better chance of getting a guaranteed job after college while making money with computer science, it makes my head a lot more clear. Like I said, if you're putting a lot of time and effort into what you're future plans are then continue on and prosper! My lost ones.. please keep an open heart and mind to what other (older) people are telling you and don't give up on your future! <3
