The last topic on my big list was to talk about Social Status. I took sociology classes my senior year of high school and some information we learned really opened my eyes to some things in life.
3. Social Status
If you are unaware of the term "social status" it basically means where you're kind of at on the social scale. Meaning you are the "jock" or the "nerd". It's all categorized based on how socially active you are around others. Sometimes you can choose and other times it's just "assigned" to you. But I don't really want to get into the scientific terms of it. I want to talk about How fucked up social status really is.
When freshman walk into high school, they think that high school is just like it is in High School Musical, or like in all the other movies that try to relate to the upcoming generation, but fail miserably. GUYS HIGH SCHOOL IS NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIES! It really isn't. Once new kids get into the building they think that it has those immediate categories that you have to choose from. The one that made me the most angry..."the popular kids". To me that is the most dumbest thing anyone can ever say. They're not "popular" in any state country or tri-state area. It's all a bunch of bullshit. They're only well known because they either did something stupid, their daddy has loads of money, or they're very sexually known... if you know what I mean. Some can be nice, but don't be fooled because most of the time it's just an act.
I wish high school girls especially would just stop trying to live up to their standards because most of their standards are actually very low. Most girls that are well known like that, are very rude and obnoxious. My advice is that you join a school team and build up enough confidence to be your own person and make other people follow you instead. Don't be a follower, because that leaves no room to be yourself.
The other day a girl younger than me was texting me for advice. She told me that she was going to go all out for her senior year of high school. I told her that was good, but the next part kind of surprised me the most. She said all she wanted to do was go to parties and drink with everyone. I do not like to control other peoples actions because ultimately you are your own person, but drinking, smoking and going to parties does not change you social status. If you want to change your social status to a higher level, talk to everyone. Do not just limit yourself to people that you normally would talk to. Go out of your comfort zone and be a friend to everyone. You don't have to lower your morals just to "fit in".
Be a friend to everyone. If you think someone's weird, go up and talk to them.. it might be that they're just shy but they could be a really amazing person. If the person is "well known" talk to them but don't be too overbearing to the point where you lose yourself in the process. Just be yourself always and never let anyone else influence who you really are.
Have fun this school year, if you want to make a new image about yourself than go for it. Just remember who you are; remember your roots.
